Ella is the first exploration of eelgrass used as an alternative upholstery material in a furniture context. Through the stacking of the cushions, an immediate and easily readable collection of objects emerges, speaking to the viewer through its tactility and honesty. Prior to the work, a thorough examination of various sewing techniques formed the basis of the design. The quality of quilting, sewing, and embroidery has been explored through small experiments, which lay the foundation for an approach that adds ornamentation without it losing its constructive function.
